About the Specifications Technologist role
As an integral member of the Technical Team, you will be responsible for generating, maintaining detailed, accurate and up to date customer specifications and other related paperwork while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
In addition, you will manage and co-ordinate the artwork process to meet on site and customer deadlines and ensure artwork and packaging are accurate and safe.
Key responsibilities as our Specifications Technologist:
- Coordinating all information for new product specifications
- Developing and maintaining precise product specifications in time, in full, with a right first-time approach in compliance with regulatory standards, customer standards/policies, quality standards within agreed timescales
- Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to ensure consistent compliance across the production process and to facilitate the accurate generation of customer specifications
- Transferring specification data into specific customer formats using various customer specification systems/portals (e.g.: Micros, M&S FIND, Hamilton Grant)
- Working with the critical paths, ensuring all products hit required deadlines, ensuring customer launches are on time with all relevant documentation completed for specifications.
- Checking new product relevant information to ensure it meets legal requirements and is safe before adding to specification (e.g. shelf-life documents, quality standards, raw material certifications )
- Being accountable when advising customers and suppliers through quality, accurate and timely risk-based advice which will allow customers to launch products successfully
- Handling customer queries related to product specifications
- Managing and upkeep of specifications
- Customer contact – to work closely with retailer specification counterpart teams
What we re looking for in our Specifications Technologist:
- Degree/Qualification in Food Science, Food Technology, or a related field desirable but not essential
- Proven experience as a Specification Technologist in the food manufacturing industry is essential. Experience with online specification systems is desirable
- Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in generating (where specifications come to life) and maintaining product specifications
- Ability to work in fast paced environment, to tight deadlines while demonstrating great communication and a can do attitude
- Excellent analytical and IT skills
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and industry standards, challenges and consumer trends
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with diverse teams
- Strong organisational and project management skills
- Good team player
