We have an exciting opportunity for a senior lawyer to join our new Insurance team within Aviva’s UK legal function! This role will focus on providing commercial, first class legal advice to Aviva’s rapidly growing Protection businesses (Individual and Group Protection).
Our teams provide end-to-end commercially focussed legal support to the business areas described above. You will join a busy and strategically important team which strives to deliver the best legal service for its clients and has a strong focus on fostering relationships across the business.
A bit about the job:
In this position, the successful individual will be providing first class legal advice across Aviva UK Insurance (Protection) business units, as well as reviewing, drafting and negotiating contracts relating to the Insurance business units. You would also be reviewing, drafting and advising on customer facing contractual documentation and product literature across different media.
This role would be expected to advise Insurance business units in relation to new propositions and key strategic investments and provide input into Board and Committee papers where required, providing concise and tailored summaries for various business stakeholders including Finance and Risk. Additional responsibilities would include upwards management of key risks and issues to the Head of Legal, and General Counsel of UK Life, whilst building solid relationships with key stakeholders within Insurance and the wider Aviva group, providing strategic input into the Insurance business areas and delivering at pace.
Skills and experience we’re looking for:
Qualified Solicitor and/or Barrister, with strong experience of working in the Financial Services market.
Proven negotiating experience and relationship management skills, partnered with strong commercial and strategic mind-set.
Ability to react and adapt to and implement change at pace.
Experience and/or knowledge of Individual and/or Group Protection products will be desirable.
Experience and/or knowledge of business integrations (post-acquisition) will be desirable.

Starting salary circa £80,000 / circa £95,000 (depending on location, skills, experience, and qualifications)
Bonus opportunity – 12% of annual salary Actual amount depends on your performance and Aviva’s.
