Tempest Jones are retained by one of the largest not-for-profit Developer and Asset Management organisations playing a major role in the UK housing market. They are using their experience, scale and financial strength to deliver new homes and communities across the country. These are at a range of price points and tenures from private sale to social rent. Any profits generated are invested back into social purpose.

Recently they have created their own private development company which delivers and markets homes for private sale and leads on land acquisition. They also have a strong track record on regenerating existing estates and breathing new life into communities. Over the next 5 years as part of their major mixed-use development programme across England, they will be close to a million square foot of retail and commercial assets ranging from, community centres and regeneration projects to start up retail and Grade A office units in central London.

The Role

Be responsible and accountable for the Development Management of residential lead and mixed-use developments undertaken by the organisation, and ensure they meet the commercial objectives defined in the relevant approvals / business plan. The Senior Development Manager will manage Development Managers or Assistant Development Managers across a number of projects whilst leading on their own projects. Working closely with and reporting to the Development Director and other Development Functions. The Senior Development Manager will undertake and manage their team with a primary focus post site acquisition through to successful planning permission.

  • The role of the Senior Development Manager is to formulate and manage the design, development, commercial and place creation vision for complex projects and to be fully responsible for all aspects of this work.

  • Ensure the success of the complex development projects taking responsibility for all aspects of the development up to planning (inc S.106) and ensuring the performance of the other development functions to realise deliverable schemes in line with the project brief and approvals.

  • The Development Manager will report directly to the Development Director and will attend Project Control Group ("PCG") meetings, and senior management meetings as appropriate.

  • Substantial and relevant residential projects experience for the seniority of the role E

  • A range of real estate industry experience including extensive residential experience E

  • Proven competency to carry out the responsibilities outlined above E

  • Good people management skills, including the ability to upwardly manage Clients E

  • Innovative with excellent planning, negotiation and issue resolution skills E

  • Substantial experience of development, master planning & place creation E

  • Substantial experience leading the planning process to successful outcome E

  • Substantial experience in managing the design of residential product E

  • Substantial experience in managing commercial appraisals E

  • Demonstrable experience in effectively managing a team E

  • Excellent commercial acumen and negotiation skills E

  • Excellent presentation and communication skills E

  • Relevant degree or equivalent D

  • Relevant professional qualifications (RICS, RTPI, CIOB) D

  • Should have a demonstrable track record in residential based design and project management on several development projects D

  • Experience in managing Clients, authorities, stakeholders, design consultants, planning consultants, contract management, conceptual design, procurement execution, cost management, understanding of technical and design risk, forming and managing effective teams D

  • An understanding and appreciation of the contractual relationships between parties (land owners, local authority, tenants, funders and banks) D
