Due to our extensive future pipeline of work, Willmott Dixon are currently recruiting for a Proposals Manager within our London & East construction business. With offices in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, and Chelmsford (Essex), we deliver projects across multiple sectors within north London, the northern home counties and East Anglia. This will be a hybrid role.

The Proposals Manager will be responsible for leading the quality elements of submissions and embedding bidding best practice processes . You will coordinate bid teams, manage timelines ensuring on-time delivery of our bids to the highest standard.

The customer - and understanding their needs - is at the heart of everything we do. As a Proposals Manager, it's your responsibility to lead diverse teams on each bid and use your outstanding writing skills to create compelling, customer-focused proposals that deliver our 1-in-2 win rate target.

As such your role will help identify customer-focused key value propositions, competitive advantages and differentiators to create winning proposals that maximise our chances of success.

Within this role you will:

Contribute to and create our bid win plan, then consistently communicate this to the team throughout so that the bid is developed in line with the strategy. You will:

  • Understand the entire bid submission and influence our approach to align with the 'win plan.'
  • Revisit the strategy when needed.
  • Be accountable for everything that goes into the bid.
  • Define and shape the visual presentation of the submission.

Make sure all the written content of the bid is clear and compelling by:

  • Owning individual answers (planning and scripting).
  • Briefing other bid writing contributors.
  • Checking the quality of other contributors' work and providing feedback and/or intervening.
  • Signing off all the written content before the Director peer review.

  1. Strategic, customer-focused thinking: Ability to identify key value propositions, competitive advantages and differentiators that help us stand out in the competitive bidding process, with the customer at the heart of every proposal.
  2. Creativity and writing: Crafting compelling narratives and persuasive proposals is a central aspect of the job; you'll take pride in effectively communicating our response to customer needs through well written, engaging proposal content.
  3. Problem solving: It's usual to encounter complex challenges during the proposal development process, such as aligning diverse ideas from multiple stakeholders, addressing technical complexities or mitigating risks. You'll enjoy the problem-solving aspect of this role, finding solutions that meet both customer requirements and internal needs, then sharing any learning with the team and wider business.
  4. Leadership and teamwork: Our Proposals Managers work closely with cross-functional teams, including estimators, designers, engineers and subject matter experts. You'll enjoy collaborating with diverse professionals, leveraging their expertise and fostering teamwork to develop comprehensive and well-rounded proposals, while providing the team with positive leadership throughout the bid process.
  5. Bidding best practice: With a passion for ensuring bidding best practice on every proposal, you'll have extensive experience of leading bids from pre-bid workshops, through storyboarding (answer planning), drafting, peer reviews, formatting and submission, and onto lessons learned and feedback analysis.
  6. Desire to learn: Our industry is dynamic and ever-evolving, with new technologies, methods, and trends emerging constantly. You'll enjoy staying updated on industry developments, learning about new innovations and implementing best practices to enhance the proposal development process.
