We're currently looking for an experienced Logistics Operation Manager to join our site in Peterborough, looking after one of the UK's largest retailers.

What is the purpose of the role?

Reporting to the Site Manager, holding overall responsibility for the professional, efficient and effective running of all warehouse operations pertaining to the contract including administration, goods in, picking, packing, despatch, returns, PI and warehouse management systems.

In this role you are accountable for:

  • Ensuring the Health, Safety and general wellbeing of all employees within the relevant contract(s) in accordance with current legislation and Company policies and procedures
  • To manage, plan and control all areas of warehouse operation in respect of the intake, processing and despatch of all Client goods
  • To proactively control costs through ongoing planning, evaluation and execution of effective and efficient operation
  • To create reports to monitor stock levels and returns for submission when required to the client , Site Manager or General Manager
  • To maintain productivity targets by means of processes, work performance and adequate staffing levels
  • To ensure the highest standards of hygiene and tidiness, through general housekeeping, of the warehouse
  • To be a key point of contact for all logistics providers to site (rail, road, sea and air)


  • To directly manage shift managers and admin supervisors, with overall responsibility for all team leaders, operational and administrative employees attached to the contract (s)
  • To build relationship and liaise regularly with temp agencies to ensure required temporary staffing levels achieved
  • To have oversight of internal communication networks, which will include team briefs, management meetings and staff notices
  • To deal with employee relations issues, where required: absence, return to work, informal counselling, disciplinary and grievance in a professional and speedy manner; to ensure that the Senior Management and HR Manager is advised of any developing issues
  • To ensure employees for whom they are responsible are recruited, rewarded, trained and developed in accordance with Company policies and procedures
  • To carry out appraisals for your team and deal with any performance management issues
  • To communicate Clipper standards throughout the workforce and to achieve and maintain high levels of performance in all functions
  • To organise and oversee, where required, training in regulatory, H&S and HR issues for relevant individuals

Required skills, knowledge and experience

  • Previous Senior Management experience within an Ecommerce Operation is essential
  • Highly organised with excellent communication and time management skills
  • Be proactive in seeking ways to raise standards, improve performance and enhance customer service
  • Flexibility
  • Previous experience of successfully delivering change management initiatives
  • To be PC literate, particularly with Microsoft Office and stock control packages
  • Understanding of WMS would be an advantage
  • To demonstrate the highest standards in dealing with employee relations and performance management issues
  • Self-motivation to achieve
