Position Overview

Fanatics is seeking an experienced lawyer to join Fanatics’ global legal team as Legal Counsel, providing commercial and strategic support to Fanatics Commerce’s international manufacturing, wholesale and direct-to consumer businesses. The Legal Counsel will be highly competent, a self-starter, detail-oriented, and a team player, with in depth experience in commercial transactions, marketing, risk mitigation, compliance and consumer law and related matters at a law firm or in-house.

Candidates must have experience supporting the commercial and transactional needs of a global, Fortune 500 company. At a minimum, candidates should be able to demonstrate significant experience supporting commercial activities from a legal perspective, including being responsible for drafting and negotiating key agreements as part of a cross-functional working group. The successful candidate will demonstrate the skills necessary to use high-level communication skills, both oral and written, to effectively communicate with various levels of leadership and staff, across functions and in various settings.

Responsibilities:

Primarily support the EMEA and APAC business operations of Fanatics Commerce, including both the direct-to-consumer (ecommerce and in-venue/event retail) and wholesale (manufacturing and distribution) of licensed sports merchandise, including apparel, headwear and hard goods, under the Fanatics and Mitchell & Ness brands

Partner closely with Fanatics’ Business Affairs and Business Management teams to structure, draft, negotiate and execute a variety of commercial transactions, including operational, marketing, technology, supply, manufacturing, services, distribution, licensing and rights acquisition agreements

Counsel business teams with respect to day-to-day matters, areas of risk and key strategic initiatives, affecting the business and operations

Interpret and advise with respect to rights and obligations under Fanatics’ agreements

Work closely with business teams to establish and implement policies, procedures and related documentation and training

Partner closely with internal and external stakeholders, including subject matter experts

Serve as a trusted business partner and creative problem-solver.

Oversee outside counsel, particularly in connection with non-UK matters

Requirements:

Qualified as a Solicitor in England and Wales (or CILEX equivalent).

At least 5 years of post-qualification experience working on a wide range of sophisticated commercial transactions, including operations, manufacturing, distribution, co-brands, licensing/sublicensing, rights acquisition, intellectual property, digital technology,

e-commerce, and/or brand partnerships.

Broad commercial and strategic background working on international transactions.

Strong business acumen and savvy, good common sense and sound judgment.

Ability to execute under pressure and under time constraints in a fast-paced environment.

Creative thinker who can initiate and develop alternative approaches to complex issues.

Self-starter with strong work ethic and ability to work independently and take ownership of business-critical transactions.

Strong academic background and law firm training.

Experience in the global sports industry and/or a background in licensing and retail, including e-commerce, are strongly preferred.

In-house experience is strongly preferred.
