We're looking for an ambitious Head of Procurement to join our team.

Which? is on an exciting journey to expand its audience and subscriber base through broadening its appeal even wider and further developing it's offerings to make life simpler, fairer and safer for everyone. This will see the evolution of all of its services, so from the magazines, advice, Trusted Trader and Legal Services, and is seeing significant development of its digital services and presence.

What you'll be doing

We are looking for someone who will deliver procurement and supplier management support to the organisation and facilitate the delivery of the organisation's strategy through effective and efficient collaboration with suppliers.You will deliver annual savings through the effective collaboration with and management of suppliers and support the delivery of key strategic projects, expected to include but not limited to the path to net zero emissions. Additionally you will:
  • Develop, oversee, and complete the implementation of the new value and risk-based purchasing processes to ensure the organisation delivers greater value from both the initial procurement and ongoing supplier management.
  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders across the organisation - including budget holders and contract owners within group departments, plus the in-house Legal, Finance and Risk functions.
  • Initiate and lead best practice supplier sourcing for procurement, supporting the preparation of the tender and evaluation documents, managing the supplier selection process, including pricing analysis, and undertaking appropriate due diligence.
  • Support the negotiation of pricing, service levels and key terms and conditions for tendered services, renewals and additional services through preferred suppliers, working with the key stakeholders and updating documents and performing analysis as required.
  • Support periodic reviews of supplier performance (including KPI/SLA work on ongoing strategic contracts) in partnership with the organisation, to ensure quality and cost targets are achieved.
  • Using previous experience and knowledge of good industry practice, ensure the tailored procurement policies and guidelines are clear and sensible and commensurate with the size and culture of Which?.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with procurement policies and perform regular supplier reviews to ensure high quality of service delivery.
  • Understand the top 20 suppliers by spend and provide ongoing commentary on whether spend is addressable, plus any associated risks. Provide feedback on Which?'s current procurement/commercial performance.
  • Identify organisational training needs and work with the Group Learning and Development team to implement training as appropriate, particularly in relation to organisational engagement with the new value and risk based approach to purchasing
  • Report on potential duplicate suppliers/services and identify inefficiencies across the organisation (opportunities for consolidation). Monitor periodic MI from strategic suppliers
  • Work collaboratively with suppliers on issue resolution and joint continuous improvement initiative.

What we're looking for

We will need to see:
  • Strong commercial acumen - demonstrable experience of achieving quality improvement and cost/efficiency savings through negotiation
  • A self-starter with a flexible and pragmatic approach, able to operate independently as well as bringing different stakeholders together to achieve collective success
  • Project Management skills to run a larger procurement process - demonstrable experience of running ITTs or RFPs
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills both within the organisation and externally within negotiations
  • Relevant experience of working in procurement functions within other organisations, ideally on a standalone basis and in unregulated environments
  • Specialised category knowledge and experience with a strong preference for IT, digital and/or marketing services
  • Experience of implementing and managing procurement governance
  • Strong commercial and financial skills, balanced with a good understanding of reputational risk.
