The Second Line Financial Crime Risk Team manages all financial crime risk at Zopa. It advises and challenges the business to ensure appropriate controls are in place to protect the bank, customers, and society from financial crime. The team oversees risk management, training, and assurance activities to ensure adherence to frameworks and standards, managing financial crime risk within the bank's risk appetite.
We are seeking an experienced financial crime risk manager to join our growing second line team. You'll report to the Director of Financial Crime Risk and support the development of our financial crime risk framework and processes.
This role requires a dynamic, analytical thinker who collaborates with risk, operations, and product teams to review, challenge, and oversee financial crime risk assessments and decisions. A day in the life:- Develop and maintain Zopa's AML/CFT and Sanctions policies and standards, ensuring measures are in place to address money laundering, terrorist financing, and sanction evasion risks.
- Conduct assurance activities such as testing controls, MI validation, customer journey reviews, policy reviews, and thematic reviews of the financial crime framework.
- Perform risk assessments for new and existing products and contribute to the annual bank-wide risk assessment.
- Review methodology documents and proposals from the 1st line of defence, questioning where necessary.
- Draft and update policies and procedures to reflect regulatory changes and best practices.
- Prepare documentation for risk meetings, policy updates, and regulator reports.
- Ensure controls scale with products by developing review and monitoring processes.
- Analyze MI to identify concerns for further investigation.
- Collaborate with the risk team to develop or improve controls across accounts.
- Experience in AML/CTF risk management within financial services, preferably in fintech, digital banking, or EMI.
- Hands-on team player with risk function experience.
- Deep understanding of UK anti-money laundering, counter-terrorist financing, and sanctions regulations.
- Clear communicator capable of explaining complex concepts simply and influencing stakeholders.
- Comfortable in a fast-paced, changing environment; proactive and autonomous.
- Strong organizational, project management, and analytical skills.
- Pragmatic problem-solver with critical thinking skills.
- Data-driven with the ability to analyze and draw insights from data.
- Excellent report writing skills, adaptable to different audiences.
- High integrity, sound judgment, attention to detail.
Bonus points for:
- Experience with product teams, suppliers, or regulators.
- Knowledge of SQL.
- Experience with retail current accounts.
- Financial crime qualifications (e.g., ICA).
This role requires travel to our London Bridge office twice a week.
We're on the move!By late 2025, Zopa will relocate to 20 Water Street, Canary Wharf, fostering collaboration for our 900 employees amid growth.
