What is the Legal department responsible for?
Our Europe, Middle East, and Africa (“EMEA”) Legal team, which is currently comprised of approximately 40 staff, provides legal advice and services for the EMEA region. This involves working closely with groups throughout the organisation, including Distribution, Product and Operational teams.
What are the ongoing responsibilities of an Associate Corporate Counsel?
As Assistant Corporate Counsel, you will report to the Head of UK Legal and work closely with the UK Legal team and company secretariat on all legal aspects of retail fund and corporate matters and projects focussing on the UK. You will work primarily on covering the UK retail fund vehicles (UK UCITS and investment trusts) and providing pragmatic commercial advice to internal clients and the UK corporate boards but may also have some involvement with alternative funds and special projects.
Primarily advising internal clients on all matters related to our UK retail fund ranges, including negotiating service provider agreements
Assisting with supporting the product governance process and managing fund launches and updates to documentation for the UK retail fund ranges
Attending board meetings, presenting periodic legal updates, and overseeing company secretarial matters
Instructing and managing relationships with external counsel where advice is required
Reviewing general legal agreements and instructing external counsel in relation to e.g. property, employment or litigation matters
Reviewing / drafting FT inter-company service and loan agreements
Researching and providing updates on developing legislation in the UK and attending internal working groups
What qualifications, skills and experience would help someone to be successful?
Qualified solicitor, NQ+, ideally having qualified in funds, asset management or corporate departments
Knowledge and experience of the asset management industry, investment trusts and UK retail fund regulation helpful but not a requirement
Ability to analyse regulatory proposals and consider the practical impacts for our business
Ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple responsibilities
Ability to work both as part of a team and independently where necessary
Good commercial awareness and ability to present legal issues in layman terms
Ability to successfully operate and communicate in an international environment
